Kendo is a modern Japanese martial art rooted in the traditions of the samurai. Training combines footwork, precise strikes, etiquette, and spirited practice with a partner.
Miami Valley Kendo meets weekly in Dayton for bogu keiko, with dedicated kata-geiko held monthly. Come ready to move, listen, and learn at your own pace.
02 / Our story
Founded by Koki Ariga-sensei, Miami Valley Kendo has served the region for more than three decades. Our Dayton location brings together practitioners from across southern Ohio and supports close collaboration with neighboring kendo communities.
The club is a member of the East Central United States Kendo Federation, a regional member federation of the All United States Kendo Federation.

You do not need martial-arts experience to begin.
Let us know you are interested and confirm the upcoming practice.
Choose clothing you can move in. Specialized armor is not needed to observe.
We will introduce the etiquette, movement, and fundamentals of kendo.
